Terms of Service

Last Updated: July 2026 (v2 — method-aware)

1. Acceptance of Terms

UtilityMove.ca is operated by UtilityMove, a business name registered in Ontario (Business Identification Number 1001696548) as a sole proprietorship of Irwinder Sra ("UtilityMove", "we", "us"). By accessing or using UtilityMove.ca, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and all applicable laws and regulations in Ontario and Canada. If you do not agree, you are prohibited from using this site.

2. Service Description

UtilityMove.ca is an information and move-preparation tool for residential moves in Ontario. For each relevant service at your old and new addresses, we identify the applicable utility or municipal provider, determine that provider's preferred method for handling a move request, and prepare the appropriate content for that method — a drafted email, an online-form checklist, or a telephone script.

Where a provider genuinely accepts move requests by email, and after you verify your email address with a one-time code and approve the message, we transmit that email to the provider on your behalf and on your authorization, with your email address set as the reply address. Where a provider's move process is an online form, portal, or telephone call, UtilityMove provides you with the official contact details and prepared content, and you complete that form or call yourself— UtilityMove does not submit online forms or place telephone calls on your behalf.

We do not guarantee that any provider will act upon a request, whether it was sent by us or completed by you, as final account changes are subject to each provider's own internal policies, verification, and processing. Marking a form or call as done records that you took the action; it is not confirmation from the provider that the account change is complete.

3. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, UtilityMove.ca makes no warranties or representations, express or implied, regarding the service, including its accuracy, completeness, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any warranty, condition, or right that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario).

4. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Liability cap. The total aggregate liability of UtilityMove.ca, its owners, and its operators, arising out of or relating to the service or these terms — whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise — shall not exceed the total amount you paid to UtilityMove.ca for the service giving rise to the claim.
  • Excluded damages. UtilityMove.ca shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, resulting from the use of or inability to use the service, including but not limited to utility service interruptions, missed disconnection or connection dates, late payment fees, collection actions, credit reporting impacts, or property tax penalties.
  • Basis of the bargain. You acknowledge that the fee charged reflects this allocation of risk and that UtilityMove.ca would not be able to provide the service at this price without these limitations.

If applicable law does not permit a limitation above to apply in full, liability shall be limited to the greatest extent that law permits. If any part of this section is held unenforceable, the remaining parts remain in full force.

5. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for ensuring that all addresses and dates provided are accurate. You acknowledge that it is your responsibility to follow up with utility providers if you do not receive a confirmation from them directly within a reasonable timeframe. For any provider whose move process is an online form, portal, or telephone call, completing that form or call is your responsibility; UtilityMove prepares and provides the necessary information and contact details but does not perform those actions for you.

6. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

7. Intellectual Property

The content, design, and logic of UtilityMove.ca are the exclusive property of UtilityMove and are protected by copyright and trademark laws.
